The Man from Autumn presents a unique opportunity to learn about our private journey of life. Although the work is fictional, it indirectly exposes the reader to my Biocognitive theory of how mind, body and historical culture conceptualize our world and influence our relationships, health and longevity. The format of a novel within a novel allowed me to weave a mystical connection between Enrique, the author, and his main character, Breogán, to explore the synchronistic aspects of our personal experiences. This dimension of meaningful coincidences I call the drift is accessible to anyone who learns how to enter it and navigate its chaotic pathways.

The story is sprinkled with hidden meanings, symbolisms and a new technique I introduce in this work called participatory presence, where the literary time-sequence of the novel, coincides with the actual time of the reader. This "coincidental strategy" where literary and real time converge, is used throughout the book to offer the reader a sense of "interactive coherence" as the story unfolds. The tutorial style of my novel creates a psychological space of incidental learning where the reader is enticed to shift attention from a confirming to a discovering mode.

The shifts from validating to exploring bring meaning to the synchronicities in the story as well as provide navigational tools to engage real-time synchronicity in the reader's personal life. Additionally, the archetypal bonding power of "breaking bread", is used to introduce key concepts within dining scenarios that include descriptions of the foods and wines the characters are enjoying while they discourse.

In addition to entertaining, I believe a work of fiction should inspire readers to consider the possibility of making their dreams an obtainable reality. Maybe if we learned more from art, the richness of creativity and the beauty of pondering could surface to renew our curiosity about this wonderful experience we call life. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did writing it. Let me know what you discover.

Best wishes,

Mario E. Martinez
